Orissa Clash and Christian Missionaries
Recent clashes between Hindus and Christians in Orissa during Christmas where many churches have been burnt again shed light on the complexity of the religious situation in India. As usual, the Hindus and organizations Hindus are accused. But before going into these Games blame, it is important to report the facts.
Orissa has been a favorite destination for missionaries Christians for proselytizing.
Conversions are made illegal by missionaries in the tribal areas. In Kandhamal District alone the Christian population increased from 6% in 1970 to 27% in 2001, despite a law enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Orissa in 1967 to prevent the conversion of seduction, coercion, corruption and cheating1. On the eve of Christmas, the community has organized a mass conversion "in a majority Hindu tribal camp area.2 When Indian tribes under the leadership of SWMI Lakshmanananda protested against this, he was attacked. All use of this unprovoked attack by Christian goons on Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati who was visiting the village of his disciples in Kandhmal District Darsingbadi December 24.
The issue highlights again the ugly face of religious fundamentalism in this case, Christian fundamentalism. This raises the question about the reason and inspiration behind the proselytism "."
Missionary work is not new. According to documents of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, Bible authority for missions begins very early in Genesis 12:1-3, where Abraham is blessed so that through him and his descendants, all peoples of the world would be happy. Others stress the will of God, often expressed in the Bible, that all peoples of the earth shall worship him. Therefore, Christian missions go where the worship is not, so that the cult of God.3 the 16th century, Asia was connected proselyization Portuguese colonial policy. When Christianity came to power, the pagan temples were closed and the use and revenue transferred the Church. "We order that all their (pagan) Fanes, temples, shrines, so far everything is still all be destroyed by order of judges "Was the order of the day. (Code of Theodosius, 380 AD). In Britain and Germany, the priests and monks proposes to destroy forests and sanctuaries of the population. The last regions to lose their religions in Europe and the Baltic States Prussia.
Change in attempts to eliminate infidels and heretics often proved insufficient, so that the Holy Inquisition was established by Pope Gregory IX in 1231 to make efforts more organized and efficient. Burning was decided early on official repression. In 1245, the Pope gave Inquisitors the right to absolve their assistants of any acts of violence that can be committed in the exercise of their functions. Torture of suspects was authorized by Pope Innocent IV 1252. The Inquisition was not limited to Europe and brought to the Americas in Spanish and used it to punish the inhabitants natives. By the 1500s, 879 heresy trials were recorded in Mexico alone.4 The historian Hernando del Pulgar was estimated that the Inquisition Spanish was burned at the stake 2,000 people and reconciled by another 15,000 in 1490 only ten years after the Inquisition began. (Quoted in Kamen op. Cit., P. 62.). Zumárraga, first bishop of Mexico, written in 1531, he said, personally destroyed over 500 temples and 20,000 idols heathens.5 The Inquisition of Goa, which lasted from 1.560 to 1.812 is considered the most violent inquisition ever undertaken by the Catholic Church Portuguese. procedures of the Inquisition were always conducted behind closed shutters and doors closed. Hindus have been brutally interrogated beaten, and slowly dismembered in front of their families. The eyelid was cut and the limbs were amputated carefully6. Viceroy Constantine D Braganza issued an order April 2, 1560, ordering that Brahmins should be thrown out of Goa and other areas under Portuguese control.7 the end of 1567, 300 Hindu temples were destroyed.8
These incidents are not just something to read on the pages of history, but there is much happening today. Laxmanananda Saraswati, Swami said: "There was no problem when Christians are not here Paikia. With growing numbers, the force is directed and Hindu girls forced the neo-converts to eat beef. They set several temples on fire. Be Birupakhya Mahadev temple or temple or ashram my Malarimaha Christians conspired Rupagoan to set the fire. They laid the mortal remains of cows Mandirs. Goddess Dharani Mata Kondh tribal places of worship in several villages have been violated. Sword in a sacred temple was carried Bramhanigaon force by converts who melted the sword in public and prepared their weapons with This material looted "9
The report of Lausanne "Christian Witness to Hindus," they said in detail the methods to to convert different sections of Hindus. argue on evangelism in rural areas, urban evangelism and evangelism students. They explain how "magic bullet" to convert people. Dan strategies used to use the media, social gatherings, and seminars for its advantage.10
The report provides details on how Niyogi had been paid by that Western countries with the total of Rs 29.27 crores received by the Christian missions in India from January 1950-June 1954. Note that the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and France contributed about 21 million rupees, Rs 5 million, two million rupees and lakhs 8, respectively. The report revealed that most of the money that was foreign ostensibly for the maintenance of educational and medical institutions have been spent on proselytizing. It has been suggested, the report said, Most of this amount is used for the creation of a class of professional proselytizers, both foreign and Indian. It amounted to 480 foreign missionaries working in Madhya Pradesh at that time. Of these 236 were as much as Americans. The report gives specific examples how mission schools were used to influence young minds. Harijan and Adivasi students has been the subject of attention particular. They were given free boarding, lodging and books, they attended Christian prayers. Bible classes were made mandatory to be considered absent all day, students who could not be present in these classes. school events were used to show the victory of the cross on all other symbols. Hospitals have been used to put pressure on poor class patients to embrace the Christianity. The richest harvest, however, was harvested in mission orphanages orphans collected during famines and other natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. "Not surprisingly, the report says," What is the greatest number of converts is such backward classes who live in areas where, due to various causes, only schools and hospitals there mission. Most conversions were undoubtedly certainly occurred in the sincere expectation of social services and other material considerations "11
Christianity was Following a policy of "inculturation". This means that it has adopted the pagan elements Christianized form in order to facilitate the transition from paganism Christianity. Pagan gods became Christian saints. Pagan festivals became Christian festivals. In this process of inculturation, the Christian Church ways appropriate to their age new message, but said that the Pagan veneer the Christian doctrine has been impressed by converts12. "Indigenization" Kaj Baag said, "is evangelism. This is the planting of the gospel in another culture, another philosophy, another religion.13" In the case of India, "inculturation" or "indigenization" means "the embodiment of Jesus in the spiritual tradition of India." Fr. Beda, said: "In India we are a Christian and a Christian Yoga Vedanta is a theology that not only uses terms and concepts, but the whole structure of thought of the Vedanta "14
Sita Ram Goel divide between Hindus and Christians gathered in five phases. Phase began with the arrival of Portuguese and San Francisco Javier, which uses all the crude and violent methods of proselytism. This ended by the end of Portuguese rule. The second phase began implementation of British rule, where the language and methods of the missionaries was first as before, but were not allowed to use physical methods. This ended with the rise of Hindu reform movements Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Swami Dayananda Saraswathi and Swami Vivekananda. The third phase began with the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi and his slogan of sarva-dharma-forcing samabhava Christian missions to change and soften their language. This phase ended with the International Missionary Council Tambram (BMI) in 1938, which decided to reformulate Christian theology in the context of India. The fourth phase, which started with the arrival of Independence where the Christian right to convert Hindus joined in the Constitution. The missionary apparatus multiplies rapidly and became dominant. Christianity has never known such prosperity in its history in India. The only gap in the lute was the "Niyogi Committee Report on Christian missionary activities" published by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1956 and Bill Om Prakash Tyagi in "Freedom of religion", introduced in Lok Sabha in December 1978. The fifth phase is currently running began with the awakening was Hindu Ram in Janmabhumi movement.15
During this long period of contact between Hindus and Christians, disciples that the language and methods "of Jesus has changed, but the reason has remained the same. Lausanne report in its introduction: "We give thanks to God Almighty for his act of grace of salvation in Jesus Christ which allowed entry the Kingdom of God for Hindus over 565 million scattered worldwide, mainly in the Indian subcontinent.
We welcome the fact that the saving Word of God preached faithfully by God's servants has led to a Christian population of about 19 million people in India. However, we know that God wants all Indians to know Jesus Christ and to live by these words of his Lordship16 "make it clear that the only objective missions were Christianization the world, including India and in the process of destruction of world cultures.
This desire to Christianize the world is due to the fact that the doctrines of Christianity are intolerant of other religions. The biblical God is jealous and violent. It is assumed that Jesus means "peace" and the message of Christianity is peace and equality. But the Bible says
"Do not think that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to bring peace but a sword." (Matt 10/34)
"God is jealous and vengeful God, the Lord's avenger, and he is furious, the Lord avenge his enemies, and he reserveth wrath of his enemies. (Nahum 2.1)
The biblical God is intolerant, ask their followers to torture non-believers, break the idols and images.
And as they have not killed, but should be tormented five months, and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man.
(Rev. 9 / 5)
But as you deal with them, because you shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire. (Deuteronomy, 7 / 5)
If a man remains in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered, and men gather them and throw them on the fire and burned. (John, 15 / 6)
It is this intolerance, which inspired the "disciples of Jesus" to commit great crimes. The source of proselytization by force and fraud are in the Christian doctrines, which have been widely criticized by Nietzsche, Thomas Paine, Voltaire, and Bertrand Russell. But it is still common in the secular brigade to say "all religions are equal. "How can we equate a religion which is so intolerant, that God is jealous and tyrannical and exclusive to a religion like Hinduism which tolerant, inclusive and bring peace? The best way to counter the Christian threat is against Christian dogma, which is the source of proselytism.
"Auspicious all, peace be to all;
Entirety of prosperity, that's all.
May all be happy! That all disability-free!
Everyone is looking good for others!
Let no one suffer the pain "(Shanti Mantra)
